God Bless America
By Henry Derksen

Chorus:
God Bless America, Land that I love
Won’t you hold her tight in your arms
As you watch from above
Pour out Your blessings, as she changes her course
To the one, made so long ago
Often we don’t show it
But Lord, we need you so

When first they came to this land
To start their lives anew
You welcomed them with open arms
In this land prepared by You
They gave her everything
She grew so strong and tall
The years went by and she became
God’s lighthouse to the world named America

Chorus:
God Bless America, Land that I love
Won’t you hold her tight in your arms
As you watch from above
Pour out Your blessings, as she changes her course
To the one, made so long ago
Often we don’t show it
But Lord, we need you so

Embattled by the evil one
For the choices you’ve made
Remember when “In God We Trust”
Your foundation would not shake
Those who would destroy this land
Lord, let them not prevail
Restore our land’s integrity
Your justice must not fail here in America

Chorus:
God Bless America, Land that I love
Won’t you hold her tight in your arms
As you watch from above
Pour out Your blessings, as she changes her course
To the one, made so long ago
Often we don’t show it
But Lord, we need you so

Excerpts from a Prayer for the Nation by Thomas Jefferson:
Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage.  We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy Favor and glad to do Thy Will.  Bless our land, save us from violence and from every evil way.  Defend our liberties.  Endow with Thy Spirit of Wisdom those whom in Thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home and that through obedience to Thy Law we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.  Fill our hearts with thankfulness.
All of which we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen
